As part of the session “Our Ryhyrms Run Through it”, I will be discussing Samuel Coleridge-Taylor’s inter-genre borrowings between artsong genre and Sorrow Songs (slave songs) with a focus on rhythm as it connects to the Six Sorrow Songs, Op. 57 cycle.
