Samuel Coleridge-Taylor’s Choral Music for the First Time in Ottawa

I had the honour of serving as a programming consultant for the Ewashko Singers and offering opening remarks at a recent concert featuring the choral music of Samuel Coleridge-Taylor. This event was significant as it was the first time these works were presented to Ottawa audiences.

It was especially rewarding to see these under-performed works come to life in a way that connected scholarship directly with audience experience.

In my remarks, drawn from my research work, I spoke about Coleridge-Taylor’s life, his artistic legacy, and the historical contexts surrounding his work. I also reflected on the significance of bringing this repertoire into contemporary performance spaces and classrooms, where it can be appreciated anew.
