Olivia Adams (pianist) and I have been curating a program of songs to celebrate composers whose vocal works are largely unknown. The selection of Coleridge-Taylor’s Sorrow Songs, Op. 57 are particularly dear to my heart as I wrote my thesis research on these works. Another highlight of this recital is five songs written and composed by Ottawa-based artists Beverley McKivera and Wendy Duschenes. We will also perform songs by Dana Suesse and Florence Price and conclude the concert with two Persian songs: a beloved song from almost 50 years ago, and a beautiful folksong.
