Presentation as a Guest Speaker at the University of Ottawa’s Vocal Repertoire/Art song Class

During Black History Month 2022, I had the privilege of speaking about my research on Samuel Coleridge-Taylor to a group of young musicians at the University of Ottawa. I structured the class in a way that allowed the students to experience one of the songs and the poems first, and to have time to collaboratively brainstorm and discuss the literary, musical, and performative elements before I discussed my research findings, analysis, and interpretations. The presentation led to many insightful questions from the students and an enjoyable conversation grounded in collaborative thinking and sharing.
